2024 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport

For cars which have been developed to be the fastest, most reliable and most comfortable, nothing is more important than to prove these attributes in the most challenging endurance race existing: the 24 Heures of Le Mans.

And so BUGATTI entered three separate chassis of the Type 50S into the 1931 competition – the brand’s first participation in this legendary race. One of them – chassis no. 50177 – carried the No 5 and inspired BUGATTI’s latest ‘Sur Mesure’ CHIRON Super Sport creation.

Chassis no. 50177 can today be admired in the Nationales Automuseum – The Loh Collection in Germany where it recently encountered its modern day counterpart in the same lustrous black it once has been painted in and with the same No 5 on the grille and doors. Further references to the Type 50S’ participation at the 24 Hours race in 1931 and its circuit have been marked on the underside of the CHIRON Super Sport’s wing and in the interior culminating in a drawing of the famous predecessor stitched onto the door panels.

Core to the Type 50S experience was its innovative dual-overhead cam engine, completed with an engine-turned ornamental pattern known as “Perlée"; a finish the Super Sport customer was eager to emanate throughout his car as a constant visual reminder of its inspiration.
