Pagani just did something no other hypercar maker would dare: brought back a 15-year-old design and made it better.
Meet the – a one-off built to celebrate Horacio Pagani’s 70th birthday, and it’s unlike anything currently rolling out of a “modern" hypercar factory:
A 7-speed manual gearbox with a gated shifter (yes, you read that right)
end 852 hp and 811 Ib-ft from a twin-turbo AMG-sourced
6.0L V12
4 Top speed electronically capped at 217.5 mph
• Pearl Orange over Inky Blue, showing off the carbon fiber weave underneath
F A Ceramic White and Tricolore Blue interior with some of the most intricate gauges ever fitted to a production car
Here’s what makes this genuinely interesting from a business lens: Ferrari just launched the 12Cilindri Manuale with a dual-clutch “manual-feel" transmission. Pagani said no thanks — and built an actual stick-shift V12 hypercar instead.
While most of the industry chases electritication and paddle-shift perfection, Pagani is proving there’s a wealthy, loyal customer base that will always pay a premium for mechanical purity and craftsmanship over convenience.
The Huayra debuted in 2011. The Utopia (its successor) has been out since 2022. And yet Pagani’s billionaire clientele still can’t get enough of the original – this is the second of three special Huayra variants planned for this milestone year.
Sometimes the smartest move isn’t innovation. It’s knowing exactly what your customers never wanted you to stop making.
What’s your take — is the manual gearbox a genius contrarian bet, or just nostalgia with a seven-figure price tag?
